My day trip to Banksy’s Dismaland
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the most sublime dark and depressing theme park in the world. Hardly a place to put a smile on your face; in fact if you look around you will only see miserable faces. Most of which are the utterly gloomy staff.
Banksy and more than 50 artists, graphic designers, sculptors and portraitists from 17 different nations bring to life the most exquisite black humour and satire-fuelled art together in the abandoned Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare.
“The most sublime dark and depressing theme park in the world.“
A must see? Every single piece of art across the 2.5 acre site is worthy to admire and will push you to reflect on. Banksy is the culprit of the distorted mermaid guarding the devastated castle where poor Cinderella is dead after the crash of her carriage hounded by paparazzi.
The artist depicts the grotesque actual crisis of the seas of Southern Europe. Visitors can manage the remote controlled crowded boats full of asylum seekers and an army boat; and skip the dead floating bodies in a pond.
You will find more brilliant pieces of the artist around the arena, such as the police riot control van fountain or the Grim Reaper.
“An unsettling park made by activists and brilliant minds“
Banksy and Co.
The Bemusement Park idea was initially developed by Banksy but many artists have contributed with outstanding pieces with devastating dark humour: the Fares Cachoux’s series of posters showing the current conflict in Syria; Jenny Hozer’s quotes around the arena in electric signs and from the tannoy system read by a little girl; a new born printed with recognised brands in a vending machine by Dietrich Wegner, the Jani Leinonen’s satirically modified cereal boxes and dead animals in creative situations by the taxidermist Polly Morgan’s.
One of the most impacting parts of the exhibition is the Museum of cruel designs made by Dr. Gavin Grindon. Here you will find from DIY tear gas mask, the Motorola WT-4000 used to surveillance workers to videos of experiments with animals.
5,000% APR loans on-the-go for under 12s
And please, if you are going with kids you cannot leave the place without visiting the Pocket Money Loans. Under 12s can apply (in a simple way) for a loan to a low rate of…. 5,000% APR to buy all those things which cannot be afforded.
You want more? Experience the fairground: “The Wheel”, “The astronauts’ caravan”, “Mock a duck from the muck” and much more. I hope you have the chance to enjoy the Carousel before the horses are killed by the butcher to sell their meat to cook delicious lasagna.
Short films and live gigs
